Let's be honest: is this film really worthy of being in the Top 250? What with all the psychotic behavior and the annoying, creepy smiles Amélie cracks from time to time while she's trying to be cryptic and heroic, this film is easily one of the worst I've seen.
I watched Amélie with English subtitles, since I do not speak French. If I can connect and understand a movie so well, even when the dialogue spoken is in a different language, then that is the mark of true genius.
The plot line isn't great. For me it feels like you are chasing yourself a bit.
I watch a lot of movie and I never saw a movie that could made me feel so good as Amélie did. After I saw this movie, I just wanted to kiss everybody, give money to the poor and LIVE with all my will.
The movie "Amelie," was the first foreign film I have ever watched. 3 years ago, my friend and I were having a sleep over and she had rented the movie for us to watch.
Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a master of whimsical quirk and Amélie might be his ultimate achievement. It's a kind of neo-fairytale or modern storybook romance, heightened to such with its narration and its wonderful score by Yann Tiersen, simple and melodic, like a small band playing in a cafè on a sunny afternoon.
Amelie is not only one of my favorite foreign films, but one of my favorite films overall. It is such an amazing experience to watch this movie.
From the first blazing shots of Amélie, I knew that I was in for a two hour visual delight. As the film begins to tell its story, I realized I was in for a narrative delight as well.
Another one that deservedly goes straight to my top-movies list! A soul- refilling experience that restores your faith in life and people...
